An Iowa City woman was arrested Thursday after allegedly stabbing her girlfriend in the back while the victim was moving out of their apartment.
Jennifer L. Andrews, 31, of 810 Benton Dr. No. 24, was arrested for domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury or using a dangerous weapon, police Sgt. Denise Brotherton said.
The victim was treated and released at University Hospitals, Brotherton said. The incident is still under investigation.
Police responded to the apartment at 2 p.m. Thursday for a report of a woman with a stab wound. Andrews and the victim had been living together off and on in recent months, including the previous two weeks, according to a criminal complaint.
As the victim was moving out, Andrews reportedly said she was going to have “someone come over with a gun and kill” the victim, according to the complaint. Andrews then picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the back, according to the complaint. The victim also had minor cuts on the palm of her left hand.
Andrews was in the Johnson County Jail Friday morning in lieu of a $5,000 bond. The domestic abuse charge is an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a $6,250 fine.
