Hill, Edythe Jeannette
Edythe Jeannette Hill, 89, went home to be with her Lord following an extended illness on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, in the same house that was built for her as a young bride. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Geneseo United Methodist Church in Buckingham, with Pastor Craig Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Hill-Mooreville Cemetery, Dysart. Friends may call from 5 to 8 tonight at Overton Funeral Home in Dysart.
Edythe was born Sept. 19, 1919, at her parents' home in Dysart. She was the daughter of Harry L. and Lorena Barbara Ann (Taylor) Zimmer. Edythe grew up in Dysart and graduated from Dysart High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, receiving a degree in elementary education. Edythe taught elementary school in both Waterloo and Geneseo before retiring from the Dysart-Geneseo Community School District. On June 2, 1940, Edythe married Forrest C. Hill at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. The couple moved to Forrest's family farm outside Dysart and into a house that Forrest built for his bride. They lived there until the time of her death. Edythe and Forrest were blessed with five children. Edythe was a member of Geneseo United Methodist Church and the Church of Promise, both of rural Buckingham. She was a master basket maker, a 4-H leader, taught Sunday school, and taught conservation education.
Edythe was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Charles; a brother, George Zimmer; and a sister, Hazelle Waller.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Forrest of Dysart; a son, Robert (Patricia) Hill of Dysart; three daughters, Susan Hill of Phoenix, Charlotte (William) Brenning of Decorah and Patricia Hill of Chicago; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Hill of Ohio.
The family requests memorial contributions be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Geneseo United Methodist Church or the Church of Promise in memory of Edythe.
