CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids Kernels officially lead the Midwest League in outfielders named Murphy.
The Kernels and parent Minnesota Twins announced Monday that outfielder Jason Kanzler has been promoted to high-Class A Fort Myers and been replaced on the active roster by outfielder Max Murphy, who will join the club from Rookie-level Elizabethton. Cedar Rapids already has outfielder Jon Murphy.
Kanzler hit .286 in 84 games for the Kernels, with eight triples, nine home runs, 48 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. Murphy, 21, was a ninth-round pick in the 2014 draft out of Bradley University.
He hit a whopping .371 in 34 games for Elizabethton, with seven doubles, two triples, nine homers and 25 RBIs. The Kernels play at Dayon Monday night before returning home for three games against Burlington, beginning Tuesday night.
