Marion Forbes, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Mercy Hallmar. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. David Beckman. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a vigil service at 5 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his daughter, Carol Forbes of Hiawatha; and many nieces and nephews.
Martin Marion Forbes was born Aug. 8, 1919, in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Charles and Rachel (Collogan) Forbes. He graduated from high school in 1937 in Jefferson. On May 4, 1948, he married Florentine Goecke in Mount Carmel. They moved to Eastern Iowa shortly after, eventually settling in Cedar Rapids. Marion worked as a security officer for Rockwell Collins for 30 years, retiring in 1981.
He enjoyed traveling, visiting most of the United States. He also enjoyed gardening where his vegetables would win many blue ribbons at the All Iowa Fair, and baking, especially cinnamon rolls and pies. He also enjoyed making cherry coffee cake for the Holy Name men's group at St. Matthew's.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florentine; and three brothers, James, Charles and Eugene.
Memorials are suggested to St. Matthew Catholic Church.
