Baack, Walter William Henry
Walter William Henry Baack, 91, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at the Country View Senior Living in North Liberty. Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, near Williamsburg. Pastor Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
Walter was born June 28, 1920, in rural Oxford, the son of Henry D. And Gesine (Brockshus) Baack. Walter served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Walter was united in marriage to Margaret Mary Maeder on Sept. 15, 1946, at Luzerne, Iowa. He farmed the family farm that he was born and raised on. Walter was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, near Williamsburg. He enjoyed going to auctions at the sale barn and talking to his fellow farmers.
He is survived by his daughter, RoxAnn and husband Robert Hiam of Castle Rock, Colo.; two grandchildren, Paul Hiam and Carissa Hiam; a sister, Leona Baack of Marengo; and a sister-in-law, Helen Nidey.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret in December 2010; an infant grandchild; and a brother, Marvin Baack.
Memorials are to Country View Senior Living or Iowa City Hospice.
