Meyer, Carmel Mae Cram
Carmel Mae Cram Meyer, 92, of Lisbon, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon, due to complications from congestive heart failure. Memorial services: 3 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, by the Rev. Timothy A. Jones. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday in the chapel. Burial: Stanwood Cemetery. A dinner will be served in Morgan's community room after the burial.
Surviving Carmel are her daughter, Darcie (Richard) Mitchell, Tulsa, Okla.; son, Jay, “second daughter” Betty Meyer of Palmyra, Va.; six grandchildren, Paige (Tracy) Meyer, Stacy (Joseph) Holehan, Ryan (Lani) Mitchell, Vonda (Karl) Kisser, Jana Glandon and Chad (Mary) Mitchell; 14 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Sawyer, Travis, Mackenzie and Trevor Holehan, Alyssa, Justin, Lauren and Hannah Meyer, Nicholas and Alexander Mitchell, Skylar Glandon, Ian and Gabriel Mitchell; and a sister-in-law, Pat Meyer, Marion.
Preceding Carmel in death were her parents, Vernor and Mildred Pegorek Cram; and her husband, Les, who died in 2003.
Carmel was born Nov. 1, 1917, in Oxford Junction, and graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1935. She married her husband of 66 years, Lester “Les” Meyer, on May 3, 1937, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stanwood. Carmel and Les farmed in the Mechanicsville-Stanwood area, before moving to Lisbon. She retired with her husband from Best Oil in 1977. Carmel and Les were partners in Les's farm management, with Carmel being the bookkeeper. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church all of her married life.
Carmel was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She loved spending time with her family and friends, doing crossword puzzles and ballroom dancing.
Darcie would like to thank the staff at Hallmark Care and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care of her mother and for the love and kindness they showed her during difficult times. She would also like to thank her cousins and treasured friends she has made who were with her mom when Darcie couldn't be.
