Donovan, Larry
Larry Donovan, 66, died at his home Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the Rev. Tom Doyle officiating. The family will greet friends after 1 p.m.
Larry was born Jan. 20, 1944, on the family farm in rural Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Ray and Mary Donovan. Larry spent the majority of his life working the family farm until 1996, when he was employed as a commercial trucker with Peterson Trucking.
Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling with his children and grandchildren. All those who spent time with Larry enjoyed his easy going nature and sense of humor. “Papa with the cows,” as his three grandchildren in New York called him, never failed to thrill them or educate them as they experienced life with him as an Iowa farmer.
Survivors include his son, Danny Donovan of Pawling, N.Y.; and his daughter, DeeAnn (John) Blumberg, and her three children, Danny Blumberg, Nicky Blumberg and Jessica Blumberg, all of Brewster, N.Y. Larry is survived by a sister, Catherine Wright of Marion; a brother, Don Donovan of Coralville; his former wife, Judy Danner of Brewster, N.Y.; and his best friend of 20 years, Cheryl Rickerd of Iowa City.
Larry was preceded in death by his three brothers, Michael, Robert and Alan.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
