Roxie K. Mulnix Sr., 96, of Independence, formerly of Walker, died at Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care in Independence on Thursday, May 1, 2014. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include two sons, Roxie Jr. (Karen) of Independence and Jerry of Walker. He is also survived by five grandsons, a granddaughter, three stepgrand-sons and 16 great-grand-children.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Gene; grandson, Dalton; an infant son; five brothers and two sisters.
Roxie was born March 25, 1918, in New Cambria, Mo., the son of William and Myrtle White Mulnix. He married Helen J. Wilcox on Aug. 19, 1939, in New Cambria. Helen passed away in 2008.
Roxie farmed in the Walker area for many years and also worked at National Oats as a machine operator for over 33 years, retiring in 1980.
He was a faithful member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Grainmilers Union.
Roxie enjoyed farming and taking care of his animals, especially his Black Angus cattle.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care.
