Moroney, Patrick L.
Patrick L. Moroney, 62, of Monti, died Friday morning, Sept. 9, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monti, with the Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at Reiff Funeral Home in Winthrop. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. and parish wake service held at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Pat was born May 4, 1949, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Matrona E. (Keegan) Moroney. He was a 1967 graduate of East Buchanan High School, Winthrop, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. On Nov. 21, 1970, he married Colleen F. Kelly in Chester, Iowa, and the family made their home near Monti. Pat worked as a livestock buyer and owned and operated Pat's Custom Interiors.
Pat enjoyed his Irish heritage, celebrating Halloween, and spending time laughing, joking and playing cards with his friends and family. His love of history and story telling will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen; four children. Matthew Moroney of Davenport, Bridget Moroney of Independence, Elizabeth (Chad) Hames of Long Grove and Annie (Greg) Sanderson of Columbus, Ohio, four grandchildren, Kelly Decker, Kyle Decker, Abby Moroney and Michael Hames; three sisters, Carol Ann (Lee) Bossom of Quasqueton, Rosemary (Dick) Rummel of Masonville and Judy (Jeff) Corkery of Peosta; and a brother, Terry (Mary) Moroney of Monti.
Pat was preceded by his parents, Leonard and Matrona Moroney.
