Katharine Ford was born March 29, 1925, in Oak Park, Ill., the daughter of Barbara (Standish) and Frederick Perry Ford. When she was 6 years old, the family moved to Fairfield, Iowa. She was educated in the public schools in Fairfield, graduating from Fairfield High School. She obtained her B.A. degree in music from Parsons College there in Fairfield.
On Sept. 4, 1946, she married Edwin E. Green. During the years of her marriage she taught elementary and high school music, plus three high school subjects in the school districts of Richland, Batavia, Packwood, Frederika and Owasa, all in Iowa. In 1966, Kay completed her master's studies in music education from the University of Iowa. Her final 21 years in teaching were in Fairfield elementary schools.
In her earlier years, she was a choir director and children's choir director at First Christian Church in Fairfield. She was choir director as well as Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church in Sigourney.
Recently she had been a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Coralville and had been attending Grace Community Church.
During her life she has enjoyed her family and continued to correspond with many friends at Christmas time. Always having enjoyed art, she has done a great deal of acrylic painting and water color. Piano and books have been mainstays in her life.
Her family includes two children: daughter, Jo Ellen Crowe (Gail); and son, Eric Edwin Green (Hyon); five grandchildren, David Crowe (Andrea), Amy Crowe Trullinger (Jared), Olivia "Katy" Green Lockhart (Keith), Inee Green and Ethan Green; and six great-granddaughters, Nora and Kiera Crowe, Stella and Hannah Trullinger and Avary and Ellie Lockhart. Kay's brother, Charles Hubbard Ford (Mary Louise), also survives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; parents, Frederick and Barbara Ford; grandparents, Albert and Carrie Standish and Charles and Jennie Ford; sister, Mary Voter (Roger); and her brother, Albert Ford (Jean Luers), who went missing over Eastern India during World War II.
We give thanks for the life of Katharine Green!
