Have bus block road so cars can’t pass

I recently witnessed two close calls where a driver drove through the school bus flashing red light (from the front of the bus) warning. Scary!
I think this is a solution: When the bus approaches the assigned stop on a two-lane street (one lane each way), have the bus driver drive to the left a bit so that the bus is straddling (stopped) in the middle of the street. It would seem that would be effective even if there is a “parking” lane.
Via this scheme, no driver can possibly pass by even with traffic coming from a side street (T intersection). Let's do it!
