Henry Edward "Ed" Staton, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital. Teahen Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
Ed is survived by his wife, Karin of Cedar Rapids; his sons, Scott (Cyndy) Staton and Daniel (Kim) Staton, both of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Lydia (Josh) Sax, Jule (Kenny) Day, Megan (Ryan) Anderson and Jared Staton; nine stepgrandchildren; and his brothers, James "Mick" (Carol) Staton and Jerry "Dean" (Nancy) Staton.
Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy MacKearney.
Ed was born Aug. 22, 1938, in Buchanan County, the son of Burl and Mabel Franklin Staton. He graduated from Coggon High School in 1956, attended college and served in the Army. On July 14, 1962, he married Karin Fischer in Cedar Rapids. For 18 years, Ed worked in home improvements, then at Cherry Burrell for 14 years, and at Aegon for 10 years in maintenance, retiring in 2004.
Ed enjoyed woodworking, building things with his hands, fishing and landscaping. He had a quick sense of humor that touched all those who knew him. Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was dearly loved by his family. He will be greatly missed.
