Inmate serving Linn County kidnapping sentence dies in prison

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa prison inmate has died of complications from esophageal cancer.
The state Department of Corrections says 60-year-old Richard Freitas Sr. passed away Friday. He was assigned to the hospice unit at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center.
Freitas was serving a life sentence for first-degree kidnapping out of Linn County and three counts of first-degree robbery out of Scott County. The Scott County sentence began in March 1985 and the other in December 1993.
