Robert "Rob" Joseph Provencher, 42, of Cedar Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
He was born Dec. 31, 1971, in Sheboygan, Wis., son of the late Mark Provencher Sr. and Diane Provencher. He graduated from Plymouth (Wis.) High School in 1989.
Rob joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1989, serving in Desert Shield/Storm and in Somalia. Robert reached the rank of sergeant and completed his service in 1997.
He married Sarah Rentschler in 1996.
He was employed at PMX Industries in Cedar Rapids for 18 years as a safety engineer.
On Oct. 13, 2007, he married his best friend and soul mate, Carmen Joyce (Rankin) in Cedar Rapids.
Rob volunteered as an adult Sunday school teacher and a praise and worship leader at Living Water Church in Independence.
Rob enjoyed spending his time with family and friends, riding his Harley, hunting and cooking. Rob was a gifted vocalist who hosted karaoke for 20 years bringing people together to sing, laugh and encourage others.
Rob was a God-fearing man who loved his country. He was a dedicated father who enjoyed teaching and supporting his four sons.
Survivors include his wife, Carmen; his children, Joseph, Bryce, Ty and Trevor of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Diane Provencher; siblings, Chad Wettstein (Melissa) of Waukegan, Ill., Sarah Weigert (Butch) of Plymouth, Wis.. Mark Provencher Jr. (Amber) of Twentynine Palms, Calif., Michelle Provencher of Plymouth, Wis., and Leah Backhaus (Tony) of Plymouth, Wis.; his mother- and father-in-law, Keith and Judy Joyce of Marion; grandparents, William Gradt (Dorothy) of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and best friend, Blaine Barkley (Diana) of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mark "Frenchy" Provencher Sr.; and grandparents, Lawrence and Mildred Provencher.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 4, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. and service will begin at 3 p.m., with Pastor John Sheda of Living Water Church officiating. Burial services will directly follow (Camouflage attire is encouraged.).
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Rob's name. You may send donations to Metco Credit Union or directly to Carmen.
