Weiskircher, Kristine A.
Kristine A. Weiskircher, 42, of Coralville, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after a long struggle with cancer. The family will greet friends Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville, with a vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. A memorial Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with Father Walter Helms officiating. A luncheon will follow the Mass at the church. Inurnment of cremains will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
Kris was born Jan. 24, 1969, in Iowa City, the daughter of Jeffrey and Audrey (VonRuden) Knox. She was a 1987 graduate of Iowa City West High School and received a degree in business administration from Robert Morris College in Springfield, Ill. Kris later completed a liberal arts degree from the University of Iowa. She married Kevin Weiskircher on Dec. 29, 2000, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Kris worked in pediatrics at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Kris was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Coralville, a charter member of the Preemie Project at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and was a founding member of the Quad Cities Greyhound Adoption-West.
Kris is survived by her husband, Kevin; her daughter, Emily; brother, Andy Knox and his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Taylor and Jessica Knox, of Summerdale, N.J.; her parents, Jeff and Audrey Knox of Iowa City; maternal grandmother, Verna VonRuden of Westby, Wis.; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Dave (Beth) of DeWitt, Ann (Bernie) of Wahoo, Neb., Bob of Manning, Donna (Mike) of London, Ky., Paul (Anita) of Missouri Valley, Sue (Doug) of Cedar Rapids, Jim (Jill) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Amy (Jerry) and Kay (Dan), both of Clinton; many nieces and nephews; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Kris was preceded in death by her father- and mother-in-law, Donald and Mildred Weiskircher; her paternal grandparents; and her maternal grandfather.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Preemie Project at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Quad Cities Greyhound Adoption or The American Cancer Society.
