DeLaney Jr., Paul M.
Paul M. DeLaney Jr., CAPT, JAGC, USN (Ret.), 57, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturdayat St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with Father Walter Helms officiating. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with Lensing Oak Hill, Coralville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Washington, DC 20850. Paul was born Oct. 18, 1954, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Paul and Mary (Snell) DeLaney Sr. He was a 1977 graduate of Grinnell College and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1984. Paul received his master's degree from George Washington University in environmental/health law.
On June 4, 1983, Paul married Ann Wessels in Petersburg, Iowa. In 1984, Paul was commissioned in the U.S. Navy. For most of his 23-year military career Paul was with the Office of the Judge Advocate General in Washington, D.C. After retirement, Paul continued his work for the General Counsel Office in the Department of Defense.
Most important in Paul's life was the time spent with his family, and particularly, coaching and watching his children play sports.
Survivors include his loving wife and friend, Ann; and their three children, Caitlin (Alex) Cecchini of Prior Lake, Minn., Gregory DeLaney of Fairfax, Va., and Kevin DeLaney of Coralville; his mother, Mary Koeber; four siblings, Cynthia DeLaney, Fabianne DeLaney, Tanya DeLaney and Greg DeLaney, all of Columbia, Mo.; two half sisters, Millie DeLaney of Keokuk and Paula Ketterer of Rolla, Mo.; and many extended family members.
Paul was preceded in death by his father and stepfather, Ed Koeber.
