Jones, Dorothy
Dorothy Jones, 84, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at her daughter's home near Vinton following an extended illness. Private committal services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy was born July 31, 1926, in Oelwein, to Paul and Louise (Hoth) Jacoby, and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids. On Jan. 31, 1944, she was united in marriage to John “Jack” Jones in Marion. For many years she was employed as a receptionist at the optometrist office of Dr. George K. O'Brien. Later in life she thoroughly enjoyed serving as a food demonstrator at Sam's Club.
She enjoyed membership in the Presbyterian Church. In her leisure she enjoyed dancing, playing cards, crocheting, and volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Dorothy and Jack were avid Hawkeye fans and especially enjoyed attending football games and tailgating. She was a fabulous bread and noodle maker and loved to be busy, never allowing the grass to grow under her feet. She loved her dog and her life truly centered around her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie (Vernon) McClintock of Vinton; her grandchildren, Mindy McClintock of Vinton, Christa McClintock of Van Meter and Jon (Amanda) McClintock of Chicago; three sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen; and three sisters.
A memorial fund has been established for Virginia Gay Hospital Health Care Foundation for Home Health Care Services and Diabetic Education, 502 N. Ninth Ave., Vinton, IA 52349.
