Meader, Janet

Janet Meader, 62, of Central City, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a two-year battle with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, by the Rev. Richard Marsceau. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Mark; her parents, Harold and Erva Kelso; sons, Ron (Casey) Meader, Bill (Theresa) Jasa and Kurt Jasa; sister, Carole (Robert) Beresford; nine grandchildren; a special aunt, Helen Kelso; lifelong friend, Bunny Hopkins; and special friends and neighbors, Marge Palmer and Norma Chapman.

Janet was born June 29, 1947, the daughter of Harold and Erva (Cahill) Kelso, in her parents' home in Walker, Iowa. After graduating from Walker High School in 1965, Janet worked at Collins Radio until a debilitating disease forced her to retire. She married Mark Meader on July 17, 1971, in Walker. Besides loving her family and friends, Janet had a lifelong love of animals. She and Mark had horses, dogs, and cats. They gave her much joy, and in recent months, a lot of comfort.

Janet was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting afghans for gifts, games, jigsaw puzzles, spending time with Mark at their cabin and, until it became physically impossible, she loved boating on the Mississippi.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, 315 18th Ave., Hiawatha, IA 52233 in Janet's memory.
