Hocken, Mary Ann
Mary Ann Hocken, 93, a resident of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Central City, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Cottage Grove. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Survivors include her daughter, Carlene and husband David Howe of Central City; her grandsons, Jesse Howe and wife Amanda and Matthew Howe and wife Heidi; great-grandchildren, Audrey and Natalie Howe and Landon and Macy Howe; and sister, Libby Dalecky.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delmer; and brother, Ed Machacek.
Mary was born May 12, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Nekous) Machacek. She was a graduate of Wilson High School. Mary married Delmer Hocken on Jan. 25, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Delmer died Sept. 27, 2002. Mary worked for Collins Radio for over 10 years before staying at home to raise her family.
She was a member of the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.
Mary was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to bake for her grandchildren. She will be missed by all.
