McHugh, Kay Ann
Kay Ann McHugh, 68, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at the Hallmar Center of Mercy after a two-year battle with lung cancer. A celebration of Kay's life will be held by the family at a later date. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Kay is survived by her husband of 49 years, Gary; two children, son, Scott and daughter, Kelly (Ron) Sterns; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Regina), Jake, Brandon, Jessy, Sara, Rachel, Christian and Katlin; four great-grandchildren; four nieces, Cindy, Michelle, Sue, Theresa and their families; and her sister Pat (Dan) Strawhorn of Camdenton, Mo.
Born Aug. 29, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kay was the daughter of Jerry and Maxine Demmel (both deceased). Kay graduated from Jefferson High School in 1962. She married Gary McHugh on Dec. 21, 1963.
Kay enjoyed the children she met during the 33 years she worked at College Community, truly missing them when she retired in 2010. Kay loved fishing with her husband, her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed putting out bird feeders and bird watching with her neighbor, Barb.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the donor's charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kay's niece Cindy McConnel for all her help and support.
