HAROLD "DALE" BERTRAND

Dale Bertrand, 84, of Cedar Rapids, beloved husband and best friend of Mona, passed away in his sleep early Saturday morning, March 25, 2017, at his home. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories. The family will receive relatives and friends in the Chapel State Room from 4 until 7 p.m.
Dale was born Dec. 11, 1932, to Harold and Bonnie Bertrand. He was raised in Cedar Rapids and attended Roosevelt High School, graduating in 1951. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving until 1956.
On Oct. 12, 1957, he was united in marriage to Mona Peterson, and began his career in sales, selling office machines for 40 years. Following his retirement, he was a starter at Gardner Golf Course for 19 years. He and Mona spent 18 winters in the south.
Dale enjoyed tennis, handball, racquetball and especially golf. He was an avid Hawkeye fan. He loved to chat with people and never met a stranger.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 59 years, Mona; daughter, Karen (Ron) Romine; son, Doug (fiancee Kim) Bertrand; four grandsons, Jonathan (Meagan), Jordan, Jacob and Jalan; two great-grandchildren; plus step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; and other extended relatives and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don; and sister-in-law, Jeanne.
