Vanis, Katherine Eileen
Katherine Eileen Vanis, 88, of Central City, died Nov. 9, 2013, at Winslow House in Marion. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Central City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a Scripture service beginning at 4. m., at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Burial: Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City, with military honors provided by Central City AMVETS Post 37.
Survivors include two sons, John (Diane) Vanis and Jim Vanis, both of Central City; five grandchildren, Jeff (Heather) Vanis, Mark (Amanda) Vanis, Vanessa (Randy) Husman, Nathan (Jamie) Vanis and Kyle Vanis; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Vanis; and two brothers, Carl Tritle and Ivan Tritle.
Katherine was born Feb. 15, 1925, the daughter of John and Vivian (Billings) Tritle in Alburnett. She graduated from Alburnett High School. On Aug. 6, 1947, she married Vincent V. Vanis at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Central City. He died April 25, 2007. Katherine served with the U.S. Army during World War II with the Medical Corps.
