Wittenmeyer Jr., Raymond
Raymond Wittenmeyer Jr., 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at The Woodlands Care Center following a long illness. Services: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of All Saints Chapel, All Saints Catholic Church, by the Rev. John R. Flaherty. Burial: St. John Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday at the church after 9 a.m. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Lucille; stepchildren, Judith Daly (Jim Garieau) of Statesville, N.C., Paula (Denis) Ojala of Orlando, Fla.,. and Gloria (Leo) Stickley of Cedar Rapids; and many grandchildren.
Raymond was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl, who died in 1983; and his parents.
Raymond was born Oct. 15, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Raymond and Ethel (Kuhn) Wittenmeyer. He married Pearl Eischeid on April 25, 1949, at Immaculate Conception Church. He married Lucille Bousek Vorhies on Sept. 8, 1989, at All Saints Catholic Church. Raymond served in the Army during World War II. He retired as a mail carrier from the United States Postal Service in 1977.
Raymond was a member of the Linn County Rose Society, American Rose Society, Good Earth Garden Club and the National Association of Letter Carriers. Ray had received an award for outstanding and devoted service as president of Branch 373 from 1958 through 1971 from the National Association of Letter Carriers. Following his retirement, Ray volunteered many hours at the Linn Community Food Bank.
