Steele, Gertrude
Gertrude Steele, 96, of Decorah, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at Wellington Place Nursing Home in Decorah. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave., Decorah, with the Rev. Melissa Bills presiding. Burial will be in Phelps Cemetery, Decorah. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Gertrude is survived by her two sons, Walter (Lila) Steele, Decorah, and Curtis Steele, Waukon; two daughters, Betty Brunotte, Hugo, Minn., and Charlene (Gene) Deck, Marion; four grandchildren, Wanda (Marc) Reyhons, Michael (Summer) Deck, Connie Lynn Olivarez and Tracie Brunotte; seven great-grandchildren, Aaron, Jacob and Jennifer Brunotte, Robert and Cory Olivarez, Taylor and Travis Reyhons; a sister, Grace Steele, Decorah; two sisters-in-law, LaVerne Ramsey and Hildegard “Susie” Ramsey, both of Decorah; along with several nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Olga (Quam) Ramsey; her husband, Raymond Walter Steele; a son, Robert Steele; brothers, Raymond Ramsey and Norman Ramsey; and a sister, Doris (Erick) Styve.
