Sindelar, Joyce Jean
Joyce Jean Sindelar, 78, of Marion, passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with burial in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Joyce was born March 5, 1934, in Iowa City, the daughter of Lee and Josephine (Wolfe) Monroe. On June 24, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, she married Arno A. Sindelar, whom she met while employed as a clerk at Collins Radio. Joyce also worked at Guaranty Bank & Trust Co., and several law firms throughout her career as a secretary. She was a member of Xi Beta Epsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and American Legion Post 298 in Marion.
Joyce enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, gardening, bridge, bowling and golfing at Indian Creek Country Club. She was an avid crossword puzzler.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Arno Sindelar; children, Jo Ellen (Jim) Haddad, Terry (Lance) Betson, Peggy Sindelar-Schwarting, Arno A. II (Tonya) Sindelar, and Jenny (Mike) La Point; 12 grandchildren, Anthony, Nicole, Allissa, Nolan, Matthew, Trey, Leea, Hayden, Riley, Michael, Chloe and Mia; and her siblings, Galen (Kimberly) Schwartz of Luzerne, Lotus (Diana) Schwartz of Sauk Rapids, Minn., Karla (Bruce) Sprague of Nokomis, Fla., and Marilyn Harnish of Anamosa.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Josephine Schwartz; father, Lee Monroe; and brother-in-law, Linton Harnish.
Memorials can be directed to the family for the American Diabetes Association and St. Luke's Hospice.
