Virginia LaMar Grafft, 95, formerly of Jones County, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, at Hillcrest Nursing Center in Round Lake Beach, Ill.
Surviving are her three children, Tani Strain,
Wilmette, Ill., Gayle (Ron) Clark, Gurnee, Ill., and LaMar (Rita) Grafft, Farmville, N.C. Virginia was a grandmother to 22, a great-grandmother to 33, and a great-great-grand-mother to five. She also is survived by a sister-in-law, Lorna Grafft Blackford of Marion; a niece and a nephew.
Virginia was born July 12, 1920, in Davenport, Iowa, to Galen LaMar and Reba Baker LaMar. Following the death of her parents at a young age, she was raised in Olin and Davenport by her grandmother, Jennie Lawson Baker, and her great-aunt and great-uncle, Clara Lawson Nabstedt and Hans Detlef Nabstedt.
She met her future hus-band, Delbert Leo Grafft, at Olin High School. They were married May 4, 1940, and farmed near Olin until 1975, and then moved to Anamosa. Delbert died in 1990.
Also preceding Virginia in death were her son-in-law, Ned Strain; a grandson, Daniel Grafft; and her brother-in-law, Richard Blackford.
A family memorial service will be held in Illinois.
