Fredrickson, Mary Ann
Mary Ann Fredrickson, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids. A memorial service celebrating Mary's life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Lowry; daughter, Lara Fredrickson of Washington D.C.; and siblings, Sallie (Bud) DeBar, Harlan (Mary) Beek, John (Kathy) Beek, Glenda Noordsy, David (Gayle) Beek, Rebecca Tabor, E.J. (Deb) Beek and Esther Williams.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings Ruth Bruns, Bartie Beek and Stephen Beek.
Mary Ann Beek was born Sept. 9, 1933, in Adrain, Minn., the daughter of Edward and Henrietta (Willemssem) Beek. On Aug. 12, 1960, she married Lowry Clifford Fredrickson in George, Iowa. Mary graduated with an R.N. from Mounds Midway School of Nursing (Hamline University) in St. Paul, Minn. She earned a B.S. in Nursing and a M.A. in Nursing Administration from the University of Iowa, and was also an adjunct faculty member at the College of Nursing at the University of Iowa. Mary had over 35 years of service to the Department of Veterans Affairs in the Iowa City, Oakland and Minneapolis locations. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her,
Memorials may be given in her name to the Mounds Midway School of Nursing Historical Society, 1700 University Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104; or of the donor's choice.
