Marge Volk Simpson, 78, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at Mercy Iowa City following a lengthy illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at St. Joseph's Church in Hills, with Father Michael Spiekermeier officiating. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a parish vigil service will be recited at 7 p.m., and after 9 a.m. at the church on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hills Town and Country.
Marge was born Jan. 1, 1936, in Iowa City, the daughter of Bernard and Irene Griffin Volk. She was a graduate of Cosgrove High School. On July 5, 1967, Marge married Richard G. Simpson.
Marge was a supervisor in patient registration at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City from 1959 to 1998. Following retirement she worked at the information desk at the hospital.
Marge was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Altar and Rosary Society and Hills Town and Country Club and a former member of the Eagles and Moose Auxiliary.
She enjoyed playing cards, bus trips with friends and going to the casino. Most important to Marge was her family and time spent with grandchildren, especially on holidays.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring staff at Mercy Iowa City.
Marge is survived by her children, Donna (Ray) Delzell of Washington, Karen (Mike) Stufflebeam of Mount Vernon, Jim Simpson of Des Moines, Tim (Melanie) Simpson of Hills, Tom Simpson (Marci Tucker) of Solon, Gary (Tonya) Simpson of Riverside, Wendy Boaz of Coralville, Marcy Simpson of Arlington, Texas, and Ricky Simpson of Mount Vernon; 30 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Eileen J. Wallace of North Liberty and Virginia (Tom) Travis of Coralville; aunt, Thelma Kornegor; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Donna (Rob) Schnake, Steve (Sally) Simpson, Mark (Lori) Simpson, Donna (Bill) Launspach and Shirley (Gerald) Westfall; and numerous extended family.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard, in 2005; her brother, Mike Volk; and brother-in-law, Darrell Wallace.
