Anna “Mary” Vavra
1915-2011
Mary Vavra, 96, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at Windmill Manor in Coralville. Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Interment with be Saturday in St. Joseph Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mo. Public visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 5, 1915, in Bendena, Kan., daughter of Marion R. and Cora R. (Lakin) Peterson. She married Kenneth H. Dye on April 15, 1934, in Savannah, Mo. He died Jan. 29, 1950. She married Lester J. Carr on Sept. 5, 1958, in Nashua. He died June 4, 1970. She married John C. Vavra on June 22, 1985, in Cedar Falls. He died Dec. 27, 1994.
She worked 32 years with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works as a technical assistant, retiring Aug. 30, 1982.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.
Surviving are a son, Dale L. (Betty) Dye of Iowa City; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Chris Peterson; a granddaughter, Steffany Dye; and a sister, Rose Shifflett.
