According to the results of a recent survey conducted by Iowa CareGivers and Iowa Workforce Development, roughly one quarter of full-time direct care workers have more than one job. Direct care workers include certified nurse aides, home care aides, direct support professionals and others who provide hands-on care in any setting.
New numbers show Iowa’s jobless rate fell slightly in September, though more Iowans remain unemployed than a year ago. State officials are also seeking proposals for a federally backed effort to boost rural health care access.

Earlier this year, local apprenticeship programs received thousands in grants from Iowa Workforce Development. A total of $3.4 million in grants was distributed to Registered Apprenticeship programs across the state that are building Iowa’s workforce pipeline.

Under the current system at Iowa Workforce Development, Iowans must use multiple sites and accounts to file unemployment insurance claims and find job postings. The new system will consolidate all employment services on one website.
Kirkwood Community College and IowaWORKS — the state’s workforce services network — have announced a new partnership that will create a shared Cedar Rapids location near Kirkwood. The IowaWORKS office at Lindale Mall will close.
