This fall, Public Space One will present a new multi-site installation art project, “Iowa Art Field,” directed by Nicholas Cladis, curated by Cladis and Sugimoto Hiroshi, and in partnership with the City of Iowa City and Johnson County. The project will be on display Oct. 30 to Nov. 8.
Through matching artists and activists with students and residents in the community, Banned but Not Silenced: Resisting Censorship Through Art and Activism “aims to expand and platform dissent in a time when politics have limited what state-supported institutions can do.”
The new conference focused on horror, existential fiction and cult fiction is planning its debut on Sept. 6 at Public Space One, where independent horror publishers and writers from across the Midwest will offer readers and authors alike a chance to connect and discover voices creating some of the genre’s latest books.
The project aims to provide paid opportunities for BIPOC artists and foster public conversation and action towards racial justice in Iowa City and beyond.
