CHRISTINE
JACOBSEN
Cedar Rapids
Christine "Chris" Sue Jacobsen, 59, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at St. Luke's
Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, by the Rev. William B. Harnish at Teahen Funeral Home. Burial: East Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Saturday.
Chris is survived by her significant other, Donald Kirkpatrick of Cedar Rapids; her mother, Marlis Jacobsen of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Penny (John) Patterson of Washington, Peggy (Mitch) Newton of Beavercreek, Ohio and Julie (Tom) Farland of Fredericksburg; many beloved nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Warren; and grandparents, Homer and Martha Buck and Clarence and Lola Jacobsen.
Chris was born Aug. 29, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Warren and Marlis (Ashcraft) Jacobsen. She spent 25 years of her life employed at National Oats/Ralston as an accountant. Chris had a wealth of knowledge about the company and she could often answer obscure questions about past history, practices and people. She was well known for decorating her workspace for each holiday and season. Besides her accounting duties, Chris was active in the School and Community Partnership with Garfield Elementary School.
Chris enjoyed traveling, especially to national parks, and she liked riding rollercoasters, gardening flowers, putting together puzzles, and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and Boyd's Bears.
Memorials may be directed to Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke's Hospital or Ovarian Cancer Research.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Angela Kirkpatrick for her nursing services and St. Luke's Hospice and nurses.
