(1915-2012)
Elda A. Michel, 97, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls.
She was born Aug. 12, 1915, in Denver, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest C. and Gertrude K. (Happel) Poock. She married Paul C.H. Michel on June 22, 1938, in Atkins, Iowa.
Mrs. Michel was a homemaker throughout her adult life and worked in sales at Opal's Florist and Asquith Jewelry. She was an organist at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls for 25 years and also served community meals at the church. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo.
Survivors include two sons, Vern (Eddie) of Cedar Falls and Steve of Waterloo; one daughter, Janice (Mike) Girsch of Cedar Falls; two daughters-in-law, Jo Maul of Hastings, Neb., and Kathie Michel of Cedar Falls; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Daryl and Dennis Michel; two sisters, Dorothy Happel and Leona Schirm; and two brothers, Herald Poock and Alvin Polk.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Ascension Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Burial: 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery in Atkins. A gathering will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at NewAldaya Lifescapes and visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service in Cedar Falls. Visitation is also one hour before services Friday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the church, NewAldaya Lifescapes or Cedar Valley Hospice.
