Palmer, Ronald D.

Ronald D. Palmer, 72, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his children, Nadine (Pete) Kirk of Fairfax, Charles (Deborah) Palmer of North Carolina and Sharon Palmer of Woodbine, Ga.; two brothers, Duane Palmer of Cedar Rapids and Roger (Jean) Palmer of Manchester; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mary Palmer of Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, RitaMae Palmer; brothers, Lowell, Lydell, Curtis and Donald Palmer; and two great-grandchildren.

Ronald was born on May 29, 1940, in Elkport, Iowa, son of Dale and Lorita (Borrett) Palmer. On Aug. 18, 1959, he married RitaMae Nachtmann. The couple then moved to Cedar Rapids. Where Ronald worked at Kenwood “66” gas station then he also drove buses for Cedar Rapids and College Community School. RitaMae died Jan. 4, 2002. He enjoyed wood working, country music, tinkering on cars and watching sports. Most of all Ronald loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association.

The family request guest dress casually. Jeans and cowboy boots welcomed.
