Hatfield-Hedlund, Betty A.
Betty A. Hatfield-Hedlund, 91, of Independence, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at the Buchanan County Health Center LTC, Independence, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, First Presbyterian Church, Independence, with the Rev. John Hougen officiating. Burial: Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Independence, where a P.E.O. service begins at 5:30 p.m.
Survivors include two daughters, one son, three stepchildren, six grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to both of her husbands, she was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
She was born Aug. 4, 1918, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick Ford and Nellie Comstalk (Clarke) Hall. On May 21, 1942, she and Willard “Bill” Glenn Hatfield were married in Shreveport, La. He preceded her in death in 1988. On Aug. 22, 1992, she and Edward Claire Hedlund were married in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Mrs. Hatfield-Hedlund was an elementary school teacher. She retired in 1985.
A memorial fund has been established.
