Fitzsimmons, Edna Swick
Edna Swick Fitzsimmons, 80, of Cedar Rapids, joined her mother, Bessie and grandson, Adam in heaven, Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a courageous battle with scleroderma. Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Deacon LaVerne Flagel. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Cher (Ken) Brown, Shelly Christopherson, Kevin Fitzsimmons, all of Cedar Rapids, Robert (Shawn) Fitzsimmons of Shellsburg and Diana Fitzsimmons of North Liberty; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores (Clem) Sharp of Cedar Rapids and Florence Austell of Marion; and four nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, David Austell; and a grandson, Adam Fitzsimmons.
Edna was born April 30, 1933, the daughter of Delbert and Bessie (Hutton) Swick in Watkins, Iowa. She married Ardean Fitzsimmons and to this union were five children. They later divorced. For 20 years, Edna worked for Martin Marietta. Her greatest love was her children and grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Edna.
