Sonka, Phyllis R. Edaburn
Phyllis R. Edaburn Sonka, 82, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at the Mercy Hospice House following a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Donald Bruggeman. Burial: St. John Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home and Friday from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home.
Phyllis is survived by son, Jim (Patricia) Sonka of Van Horne; three daughters, Marilee (Mike) Dulin of Cedar Rapids, Sandra (Peter) Ackerman of Duluth, Minn., and Shari Carney of Crestview, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Frank, and her parents preceded Phyllis in death.
Phyllis was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Mount Vernon, the daughter of Roy and Onalee Trimble Edaburn. She married Frank Sonka Feb. 20, 1954, in Kansas City, Mo. Phyllis worked at Sonka Heating and Air Conditioning as the secretary and treasurer for 40 years, retiring in 1986. She was a past member of Czech Heritage and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
