Clarke Seeley, 65, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha following an extended illness. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, along with a private interment at Hazel Knoll Cemetery in rural Central City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Austin Strong Foundation, Autism Speaks or Hospice of Mercy.
Clarke is survived by wife, Donna; two children, Darbie and Todd (Jessica); two stepchildren, Nathan and Nicole (Fred); four siblings, David Seeley, Donna Lou (Pete) Clagett, Gail Seeley (Bernie de Leseleuc) and Rose Anne (Dave) Steninger; sister-in-law, Trisha Seeley; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Clarke Ellsworth Seeley was born Feb. 18, 1952, to Max and Catherine (Finn) Seeley, in Anamosa. He graduated from the Anamosa Community Schools with the class of 1970. Clarke was employed at Rockwell Collins for over 30 years when he retired in December 2015.
Clarke was a master of humor and storytelling, making friends wherever he went. He had a beautiful tenor voice and enjoyed singing with his brother Darrell in All-State Choir. Clarke loved to fish and was an excellent mushroom hunter. He enjoyed cooking, making his famous sugar cookies and tenderloins, and searching for new restaurants to try. Clarke also coached YMCA and Hiawatha Kids' League sports. His grandkids were his pride and joy.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Mercy for the compassionate care he was given the past few weeks, and all of the family and friends who helped to care for him and lift his spirits.
"Everyone take a deep breath and share the love with family and friends. Reach out to a total stranger and let them know they matter. You never know what battle they are dealing with and it is the most incredible feeling to bring joy to their heart." Clarke
