Skelley, Donald Charles
Donald Charles Skelley, 81, of Monticello, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services will be held 10 o'clock Tuesday morning, Sept. 27, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. The Rev. Paul Skelley will officiate at the service. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello. Friends may call from 5 until 8 Monday evening at the funeral home.
Surviving are his four children, Sandra (Steve) Spurbeck and Jerry (Linda) Skelley, both of Coon Rapids, Minn., Sharon Moore of West Des Moines and Jeffrey (Lorena) Skelley of Cary, Ill.; two sisters, Julie Aerni of Arlington, Va., and Carol Fox of Racine, Wis.; four brothers, Richard (Marion) Skelley of Papillion, Neb., Philip (Ellen) Skelley of Lee's Summit, Mo., Paul (Dorothy) Skelley of Tonganoxie, Kan., and Peter (Jean) Skelley of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and four grandchildren, Jennifer (Julian) MacDonald and Kimberly Spurbeck, both of Minneapolis, and Otto Skelley and Quentin Skelley, both of Cary, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma in 2003.
Donald Charles Skelley was born Sept. 1, 1930, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Howard W. and Marie (Ehrishmann) Skelley. Donald graduated from the Monticello High School. On Aug. 7, 1950, Donald Skelley and Irma Bohlken were united in marriage in Monticello. He was then a sergeant in the Army from 1951 until 1953. Donald worked as the owner of Skelley's Market. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother and will be missed dearly by those closest to him.
