Wallace "Wally" Thiesen, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, March 27, 2015. A memorial gathering will take place Saturday, April 4, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home from 11:30 a.m. until
2:30 p.m. There will be a private family burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
Wallace "Wally" Thiesen was born Dec. 21, 1929, in Clinton, Iowa, to his parents, Joseph and Frances (Sawyer) Thiesen. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the 121st CB Battallion. He married Shirley Moore on Dec. 9, 1950, at St. James United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. She died Jan. 15, 2004. Wally was employed at Armour & Co., owned Wally's Deep Rock Service Station and Link-Belt Speeder before going to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he was a supervisor of house-keeping, retiring in 1994.
Wally is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Bob) Kuder of What Cheer and Linda Thiesen of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Louis (Sarafina) Thiesen of Indiana; and two brothers-in-law, Jay (Jo) Moore of Marion and Steve Moore of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
