Margaret "Peggy" Ann (Whisler) Bohr, 72, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014. A shining example of love, compassion and wisdom to all who had the good fortune of knowing her, Peggy will be greatly missed.

Peggy was born in Cedar Rapids on Nov. 13, 1941, and grew up with her five siblings in the loving home of her parents, Everett and Ruth Fulmer. She graduated from Regis High School and Marycrest College.

Peggy married the love of her life, Jim Bohr, in 1963. Theirs was a special relationship full of unwavering love, friendship and laughter until Jim's death in 2006. The couple lived in Davenport, Dubuque and Cedar Rapids and shared their positive outlook on life with their many close friends and neighbors.

Peggy focused on family and life's simple pleasures. In recent years, it was the times spent with her grandchildren who brought her the most joy. She had a way of making everyone feel like family, She had a love of art and a zeal for international travel, especially travel without itineraries.

Peggy's life was one of diverse endeavors – from early years participating in community theater to house painting, running a tax business or being caregiver – and it seemed there was nothing she could not do.

Peggy was always busy and she inherited an ability to fix just about anything from her father, Everett.

Peggy is survived by three children, Kristin (John) Gavin of Boca Raton, Fla., Tasha (Brian) Everman of Lincoln, Neb., and Amy (Brooks) West of Plymouth, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Andy, Macie, Maggie, Charlie, Teddy, Lottie, Tricia, Megan and Bri; one great-grandson, Ethan; four sisters, Becky (Vic) Everson of Minnetonka, Minn., Tamara Koehler of Wayzata, Minn., Cindy (Kevin) Hormann of Venice, Fla., and Melia Lott of Plymouth, Minn.; one brother, Jeff (Monica Starnes) Fulmer of Alexandria, Va.; Jim's two brothers, Ted Bohr SJ of Rome and Larry (Naomi) Bohr of Decatur, Ill.; and 32 nephews and nieces. She also is survived by her many cousins whom she loved dearly.

A Mass in celebration of Peggy's life will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2310 First Ave. NE. The Mass will be followed by a celebratory gathering at Vito's Restaurant, 4100 River Ridge Dr. NE.

Cedar Memorial is assisting with Peggy's arrangements.

The family has requested memorials be directed to any of the following organizations: Autism Speaks, UnityPoint Hospice or the ALS Association.
