Running soldier photo a tasteless decision
The Gazette Opinion Staff

As a human being and former marine, I cannot put into words how tasteless and careless it was of The Gazette to publish (Sept. 4) a picture of Lance Cpl Joshua Bernard as he lay dying.
I cannot say it better than Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, who in a letter to The Associated Press said “The lack of compassion and common sense in choosing to put out this image of their maimed and stricken child on the front page of multiple newspapers is appalling. The issue here is not law, policy or constitutional right - but judgment and common decency.”
