Glenn Francis “Bud” Bowers was born July 14, 1922, in Iowa City, the son of George and Ida (Stagg) Bowers. He graduated from West Branch High School, then was inducted into the Army during World War II, having served in the 28th infantry and was a survivor of the Battle of The Bulge. Bud married Gertrude E. “Peggy” Kost on May 30, 1958, in Marengo, Iowa. Bud was in the construction field all of his life as a union laborer. He and Peggy were longtime residents of Coralville.
Bud was a member of the local labor union, VFW, and Coralville Legion. He enjoyed long rides in the country, farm animals and his pets. He was an avid sports fan, especially anything to do with baseball and NASCAR, but most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren!
His family includes his daughter, Gayle (Maret) Panzenbeck of Newtown, Conn.; son, Ed (Lori) Bowers of West Branch; grandsons, Mark Panzenbeck and Cody Bowers; sister, Shirley Schluter of Clearwater, Fla.; stepchildren, Shirley (Arnie) Burgess of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Jeanne Hamilton of West Branch, Ted (Rose) Tompkins of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Richard (Connie) Tompkins of Solon; and stepdaughter-in-law, Penny Tompkins of Solon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy; brother, Paul Bowers; and stepsons, Alvin Niswander, Jr., Jimmy Dean Niswander and John Tompkins.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Bud's family and his services.
