Daphne "Rae" Gillen, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at Meadowview Memory Care Village in Cedar Rapids. Visitation: Friday, Feb. 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rae was born on May 11, 1936, to Norman and Lois Hibbard Handy in Sacramento, Calif. She was united in marriage to Ronald "Jerry" Gillen on Oct. 22, 1955, in Concord, Calif. He passed away in 2012.
She worked at Mercy Medical Center and the Cedar Rapids Police Department for many years. Rae enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing bingo, crocheting, gambling and working on puzzles. Her favorite pastime was watching Animal Planet with her dog, Lola.
Rae is survived by her children, Donna (Gam) Rivers of Denver and Mike (Sue) Gillen of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Brad (Jen), Maegen (Jason), Jennifer (Dallas), Stephanie (Mike), Michelle, Beau (Sara), Haley (Cody) and Alyssa; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Tommy; and brother, Norman Jr.
