Schubert, Marilyn F.
Marilyn F. Schubert, 87, of Coralville, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011. A graveside committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Linda Stavropoulos of All Saints Catholic Church will officiate.
Marilyn was born Oct. 15, 1923, at Britton, S.D., to Clarence and Madeline (Jones) Bredberg, the oldest of seven children. She graduated from Kidder High School, Kidder, S.D., and attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, N.D. During World War II, she lived and worked for Cargill in Minneapolis.
Marilyn married Paul Walter Schubert on Nov. 24, 1946, in Britton, S.D., (they were married for 50 years before Paul's death in 1997), moving to Cedar Rapids, living and working as a bookkeeper/office manager for various businesses, her own bookkeeping and tax service, and retiring in 1989 from the Regis-LaSalle Foundation.
She was active with the Emerald Knights Drum and Bugle Corps for many years. Marilyn was a 50 year member of Cedar Chapter 184 Order of the Eastern Star, Gethsemane Shrine #1 White Shrine of Jerusalem, and Daughters of the Nile; each serving many positions.
She is survived by her son, Paul Gregory Schubert and wife Sonia; two grandchildren, Joshua Michael and Andrea Kay Schubert; sister, Marlene Frieh of Ocala, Fla.; brother-in-law, Richard Proudfit of Minneapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
Her love was her family, and she adored her grandchildren, enjoying their many activities in sports and music. She was a beautiful seamstress, had a lovely singing voice, and enjoyed her many craft projects, especially her annual Christmas projects she did with her grandchildren.
