Maresh, Richard 'Dick'
Richard “Dick” Maresh, 72, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, from complications of esophageal cancer.
Richard was born March 31, 1940, to Donald and Ellen (Hannon) Maresh, and was part owner of Maresh Sheet Metal Works. Richard graduated from Regis High School and attended Loras College. A lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, he was very proud of his Czech and Irish heritage, having attended every SaPaDaSo parade since it began.
Richard loved working with metal. He was instrumental in fabricating the current steeple and cross of Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. He was able to take an idea and translate this into metal, making beautiful pieces for others to enjoy and admire. He was in Boy Scouts and enjoyed model railroad trains, gardening, the environment, specifically energy conservation, in addition to having a passion for unique conifer trees.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Angela (Ben) Bowen of Ankeny; his son, Donald (Mona) Maresh of Wellington, Colo.; sister, Mary Ellen (John) Bickel; brother, David Maresh; and former wife, Sandra Shay, all of Cedar Rapids.
A celebration of life will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Conifer Society, Iowa Rail Passenger Association, or the Audubon Society.
The family extends a sincere thank you to St. Luke's Hospice for their care and compassion.
