Elna "June" Shoop, 88, a resident of the Monticello Nursing Home and Rehab Center, formerly of Central City, died due to a brief illness Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at the care center. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa, by the Rev. Jim and Kris May. A luncheon will be held following the graveside services at the family farm.

Surviving are four children, Dennis (Jeanette) of Anamosa, Kevin (Becky) of Walker, Mike (Lois) of Marion and Marcia (Dave) Holub of Anamosa; one sister, Dianna (Harvey) DeSotel of Anamosa; one brother, Robert Houstman of Cheyenne, Wyo.; eight grandchildren, Amy Holub, Kene, Ryan, Nathan, Aaron, Katelyn and Rachel Shoop and Lindsey (Kevin) Luke; and two great-grandchildren, Kasen and Kylee Shoop.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; two sons, Randy and Keith; and her parents, Harold and Margaret Houstman.

June was born June 4, 1926, at her parents' home in Olin. She attended Pleasant Hill School in Olin and later worked at the Reliant Shirt Factory in Anamosa. On Sept. 2, 1950, she married Kenneth Shoop. Together, they farmed north of Anamosa for four years before buying the Everett Finn Farm in 1954. June spent her life farming side by side with her husband and raising her family. She cooked for everyone who came to the door. The deer hunters especially enjoyed her cooking for them every year. June loved her church, flowers, music and nature.

Instead of flowers, June asks that all memorials be sent to the Viola Methodist Church.
