BETTY JUNE DESOTEL
Marion
Betty June DeSotel, 86, of Marion, followed her beloved husband, Larry, in death on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016. Larry passed away five months earlier on June 12, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories officiated by Pastor Kathryn Newhall. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the chapel. Interment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Betty was born June 30, 1930, in Palo, Iowa, to Arthur B. and Ida Mae (Owens) Reynolds. After graduating from high school, she attended Strayer College in Washington, D.C., where she earned a two-year business degree. She went on to work for the FBI for nine years while she lived in Washington, D.C. She returned to Iowa, where she worked for Paul Revere Life Insurance Co. for 15 years. She concluded her career with Rockwell Collins, where she worked for 17 years until her retirement in 1990.
Betty was united in marriage with the love of her life, Laurence "Larry" DeSotel, on Nov. 30, 1968. They had been married 47 years. Betty and Larry were rock hounds who enjoyed spending time in nature. They owned and operated their own rock shop for a few years. Betty loved animals, especially her cats. She enjoyed feeding the birds and deer in her neighborhood. She was very active in the Buffalo United Methodist Church, where she was a member for many years.
Together, Betty and Larry were a nice, loving couple. After greeting him in heaven, Betty likely said, "Larry, bring me a Diet Coke." They are reunited again.
Betty is survived by her sisters, Pauline A. Hall of Marion and Faye I. Reynolds of Palo; 55 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and four beloved cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Larry; two brothers, John and Jim; and four sisters, Mary, Lillian, Leona and Ruth Ann.
Memorials in Betty's name may be made to UnityPoint Hospice or the Buffalo United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be conveyed at www.cedarmemorial.com.
