Dick is survived by his wife of 29 years, Crete; two daughters, Sharon (Robert) Murrer of North Carolina and Patricia Bobenhouse, DVM; and a son, Richard (Keli) Bobenhouse of Denver, Colo.; two stepsons, Steven (Courtney) Nall of Austin, Texas, and Jeff Nall of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Nicholas Murrer, Logan Nall, Walker Nall, Reese Nall, Maya Nall, Amy (Nicolas) Sosa, Andrew (MacKenzie) Murrer and Elizabeth McCormick; two great-grandchildren, Carolina Sosa and Enzo Sosa; a niece, Sarah (Damon) Fairfield; a nephew, Andrew Bobenhouse; and sister-in-law, Lori Bobenhouse.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Bobenhouse; grandson, Charles Robert Murrer; and ex-wife, Judy Moore.
Dick was born Aug. 3, 1938, in Algona, Iowa, to Dr. Harlan Bobenhouse and Helen Anderson Bobenhouse. He graduated from high school in Earlham, Iowa, and he entered the University of Iowa for his undergraduate degree, where he became a proud Hawkeye. He graduated with his bachelor's degree in 1956. Dick then completed his medical studies at the University of Iowa College of Medicine with an internship at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines in 1963. After graduation, he returned to his hometown of Earlham to take over his father's medical practice and became coroner in 1966.
Dick then returned to the University of Iowa and completed an anesthesiology residency. During his career in Cedar Rapids, he served at both Mercy and St. Luke's hospitals.
As a young man, Dick was an avid photographer and setter for the local paper in Earlham. He was fortunate to be able to take an up-close photo of Eleanor Roosevelt. He was a proud member of several organizations, including the Iowa Medical Society, Linn County Medical Society and the ATO Fraternity.
Dick enjoyed all aspects of photography, including capturing his daughters riding Appaloosa horses in shows and exhibitions. Dick was proud to be the owner of the grandson of Secretariat. He was one of three winners in the Cedar Rapids Gazette Fall Photo Contest. Dick enjoyed traveling, he had a sense of direction and was always the navigator. Together with his family, Dick followed the Hawks to bowl games and held season tickets for football and basketball. He had collected all of the homecoming buttons as far back as 1924.
When the Parkinson's disease made traveling difficult, he used the computer to enhance and edit his original photographs, always seeking to improve his photography.
The family requests no flowers. Instead, please consider making a donation to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, the Community Health Free Clinic or the First Presbyterian Church.
