Hoopman, Ronald E.
Ronald E. Hoopman, 79, of Cedar Rapids and San Benito, Texas, died at his winter home Saturday, March 17, 2012. Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, by the Rev. Bob Wessels of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors by the Iowa National Guard. A visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Ron is survived by his wife, Mardi; children, Paul Hoopman and Kathleen Rudolph, both of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Mary (LaVerne) Neste of Decorah and Nancy Oujiri of Cedar Rapids; a grandson, Christopher Lane; a sister-in-law, Loretta Bachelder of Decorah; and brother-in-law, Loren (Phyllis) Blumhagen of Council Bluffs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law, Don Oujiri and George Bachelder.
Ron was born June 5, 1932, in Lime Springs to Clarence and Georgia Ione Hoopman. He married Mardella Blumhagen on Sept. 2, 1951, in Decorah. Ron was a millwright, working for Quaker Oats, retiring in 1991. After his retirement, he and Mardella spent their winters in San Benito. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church and NARCA. Ron loved model trains and Ham radios (KBOVLI).
